Smart wearable devices are no longer popular, but there are still two ways to go in the future
In the past few years, wearable device manufacturers have gained a lot of popularity, but in the last two years, there has been no much noise, and the decline is obvious. From the perspective of today's wearable device market, it has not developed rapidly as expected. According to the report released by IDC, the global wearable market was still weak in the third quarter of 2016, with an overall sales volume of 23 million, only maintaining a weak growth of 3.1%, while the shipment volume was 2.7 million, down 51.6% from 5.6 million in the same period of 2015.
EMarketer once predicted that the number of wearable device users in the United States would increase by 60% in 2016, but the real growth rate was only 24.7%. Earlier, Gartner, an IT research and consulting company, found that nearly 29% and 30% of smart watches and fitness trackers were abandoned. Why are most of the current users not interested in wearable devices?
We know that in the past few years, the smart wearable devices with good development momentum are bracelets and watches, but the functions they can achieve are all focused on step recording, sleep, heart rate and other aspects. Now, smart bracelets are no longer popular. In July this year, Jawbone, a smart bracelet manufacturer that was once valued at $3.2 billion and regarded as a unicorn in Silicon Valley, announced its closure and liquidation.
Fitbit, Gopro and other American smart hardware star enterprises saw their share prices plummet around July, and their share prices fell by about 60% in the past year. Smart bracelets have basically withdrawn from the booths of various manufacturers. Some people in the industry roast that eating, drinking, sleeping and dating can be realized through mobile terminals. Many high-end mobile phones have their own step counting and heart rate detection functions. What do you want a bracelet to do? Not to mention that the devices of some manufacturers are ugly, which can not effectively display the noble style of users and have poor reviews.
